Escher and tessellations! Create your own geometric designs while you
learn about polygons, patterns, symmetry, and angles!
B. Vermont Institute of Natural
Science: Animal Skulls and
Pelts (Grades K-3)
Kim Jensen
Examine mammal skulls and pelts to
learn about the mammal’s habitat, food types and even how they travel.
Make observations! Use field guides! Learn through a hands-on inquiry
approach!
C. Junk Music with The Junkman (Grades 4 – 9)
Donald Knaack
Learn to make something from nothing.
Take objects that others have discarded and use them to make music that
people want to hear. Join The Junkman in making music and improvisation
using recycled materials as music instruments. Prior music experience is
not necessary.
D. Writing Nature (Grades 4-9)

Your senses will guide your exploration
of the natural world in the magnificent setting that Killington provides.
If the weather cooperates, we will spend some time outdoors. If not,
aspects of nature will come to us, so that we can catch the spirit of
this place on this day, eventually putting it into words.
E. Origami (Grades 7-9)

You’ve folded cranes and water bombs,
but have you made a dodecahedron, a stellated octahedron or an icosahedron?
Explore the world of unit origami—creating origami models using multiple
pieces of paper all folded identically.

Do you like thinking “outside-the-box”?
While working in a team, you’ll be challenged to solve problems that are
verbal (talk to George on a dollar bill!) and hands-on (how about
building a tower out of pasta.) Known as “Spontaneous Problem Solving” in
the Odyssey of the Mind program, these problems challenge your
creativity, develop your problem-solving and teamwork skills, but most
especially, are GREAT FUN!

Frying Pickles With Electricity (Grades K-9)
John Cohn PhD.
The program is a fun look at
electricity from ‘small’ (microvolts) to ‘big’ (megavolts) We will do a
bunch of exciting interactive demos that invite everyone to explore
electricity using their senses. The show is full of funny stories about
inventors and inventions and gives everyone plenty of time to ask
questions.

N. Global Positioning System Treasure
Hunt (Grades 6-9)
Nicole Conte and Tim Sinnott of VINS/
Community Mapping Program
Get your hands-on GPS receivers, discover
how they communicate with satellites, learn about the UTM coordinate
system and (weather permitting) navigate to find hidden treasure in the
woods. Consider how GPS could be used for mapping projects in your
community. If we can’t go outside, we will demonstrate how GPS integrates
with computer software for creating maps.
